Tarkwa SHS student allegedly kidnapped

A first-year student of the Tarkwa Senior High School in the Western Region has allegedly been kidnapped.

The incident occurred earlier this week when the student sought permission from the school to visit her mother at Prestea.

The student, Augustina Ndaago, is said to have taken an exeat on Wednesday 23rd January, and left the school premises on Wednesday, but failed to show up in the house as expected.

There was a subsequent correspondence between the school and her mother after it emerged that she had not arrived as scheduled.

The school in a statement signed by the headmistress, Paulina Manu, said the student’s supposed kidnappers called on Thursday and informed her family that she was in their custody.

Read the statement below:

On Wednesday 23rd January, 2019, a Form One female student by name Augustina Ndaago, took an exeat from the Deputy Senior Housemistress to go to Prestea where her mother is.

According to the Housemistress, in the evening of that same Wednesday 23rd January, 2019, Augustina’s mother called to report that her daughter had not arrived home.

Unfortunately, on Thursday 24th January, 2019, around 12:30noon, Augustina’s brother called the housemistress to inform her that a “supposed” kidnapper had sent him a text message that Augustina together with two others had been kidnapped and was in their custody.

Upon hearing this, a report was made at the Tarkwa Police Station for investigations to be conducted.

As at today, 25th January, 2019, no news about Augustina has been received.

Augustina is twenty-one (21) years old and a Home Economics student.

The last few weeks has seen reports of kidnapping in the country mostly involving young girls.

Three earlier reported kidnapping incidents in the Western Region have triggered a social media campaign by Ghanaians urging the police to be more aggressive in finding the missing girls.

Another report was made in the Volta Region this week involving a 17-year-old girl.

An aunt of the 17-year old student Sonrise Christian High School, Ms. Beatrice Dzorvakpor, reported to the Ho Police command the case of her missing niece on Monday January 21, and presented evidence of a Whatsapp conversation between her and someone else using her niece’s phone who did not demand a ransom.

The victim was later found after the kidnapper dropped her off at Aflao, from where she could locate a friend.
